Further Details / Source(s): Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park – Wonderland Walks (brochure available from Halls Gap Visitor Information Centre – $3.30). No specific information on this walk is available from Parks Victoria or DSE.
Getting There: From Halls Gap, head south to the Bellfield area (near Lake Bellfield) and turn right into Silverband Road. Not far along the road you will come to the Silverband Falls Carpark. The walk begins on the north side of the carpark, heading North-East.
Comments: A very short walk to a very cool waterfall that disapears into a pile of rocks at the base. Apparently it re-emerges further down-stream but although I did find some running water on the way back to the car, I was unable to find the point where it surfaced.
This track is very well defined and wide enough for two people to walk side-by-side to the falls. There were lots of birds around but no other animals that I saw. Definitely one to visit for the waterfall, rather than the walk itself.
Silverband Falls
We were there again today and the water definitely does NOT disappear underground and instead has water flowing through the rocky creek bed that begins at the base of the falls. Among the animals we saw was a very large female Samba deer drinking from the creek beside the path, as well as many blue wrens and finches. We also photographed around 10 different forms of Fungi and many flowering mosses and heaths. Definitely worth the drive for the walk, though the waterfall itself is a bit lacklustre.
Hey Anthony,
Sounds like it’s changed a bit since 2009. I can’t wait to revisit.
Thanks for stopping by.
Cheers
